Ateneo battles through FEU Zone

September 13, 2009

UAAP Game Result for September 12, 2009; one of the most exciting UAAP 72 gam days ever! The Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles really faced a battle tonight. Well, I was following the game through Twitter and Plurk Search, but nevertheless have I felt the excitement and tension that was going on inside the big dome based on what the other users and audience have said.

The defending champions struggled during the first half as the Tamaraws have simply dominated from the get-go, forcing the Eagles to only 28% shooting from the field. It looked like the FEU Tamaraws forgot what team they’re facing and forgot that a game lasts for 40 minutes, and that it is pretty much impossible that a squad f championship worthy players will outlast the frustration of being down a whole game long.

Jessica Mendoza from Ateneo

September 3, 2009

Have you noticed this cute court side reporter of the Blue Eagles? If she’s been reporting in earlier seasons for the Blue Eagles, then correct me, but she’s just come to caught my attention this year. She reports well, speaks fluent English and does looks very beautiful. Or, as PEXers would label her, Jessilicious. Jessica Mendoza is one true gem that I am looking forward to at every Ateneo assignment. :)

UAAP Season 72 July 11 2009 Game Schedule

July 9, 2009

After monotonous weeks, months without the College Basketball Hype flashing on National Television, the most awaited, the most anticipated Collegiate Basketball Championship is back! The UAAP Season 72! With Ateneo de Manila University as the current title holders, the Blues uphold high expectations from their followers and truly carry more load than any other team right now especially with the absence of King Eagle Chris Tiu who has already graduated from the University.

Right after the four game sweep over Arch Rivals de La Salle (2 in the eliminations and 2 in the finals) the blues got demolished by the Green Archers during the follow up post season contest where they trailed by some number. Ateneo this year, also looks to have the most hectic season start with three though games following back to back against big names like the UST Growling Tigers, UE Red Warriors and the opening clash against the FEU Tamaraws. Whilst the Ateneo de Manila vs de La Salle clash is schedule as the last game of both rounds of the elimination. To leave you with a complete schedule refer to the table below to have the UAAP Game Schedule of the UAAP Season 72 that will be kicking off this Saturday Weekend, July 11, 2009.

Ateneo de Manila competitive without Chris Tiu

May 29, 2009

It has always been a concern for True Blue Ateneo de Manila followers what the loss of Chris Tiu might mean to them. Tiu, the former King Eagle has left the University last season after topping their arch nemesis De La Salle University Green Archers by sweeping them 4-0 in the UAAP Season and a 2-0 in the finals.

Ateneo’s King Eagle, Christ Tiu’s present was not really felt during one of the occassions where he scored only two points the whole game, and still the Eagles were able to pull the game away and continue their winning streak, ending the season in the 71st UAAP with a win-loss ratio of 13W and a single loss which accounts to a victorious game in favor of the FEU Tamaraws during the first round assignment when these two have met back then.

The presence of Center Rabeh Al-Hussaini might account towards the Ateneo de Manila strength and competitiveness. Even Rookie Super Star Ryan Buenafe was missing for most part of the FilOil yet they continue their winning performances against though teams like FEU which was a sneak preview on how the 72nd UAAP Finals might look like. Veteran Jai Reyes and Eric Salamat add much flare to the team both in the offense and the defense and their newest addition Oping Sumalinog might be a sound treat for the other teams that will participate in the UAAP.

It’s still difficult to call if Ateneo is still the same Ateneo it was before with the presence of the all-mighty-hailed Chris Tiu, but one thing is for sure, one thing that hasn’t changed the Ateneo way of playing the game is doing that extra pass and finding that open man. Even with the absence of Tiu, Ryan Buenafe -who is our favorite player here- might be one of the key players to lead Ateneo to a back to back UAAP victory.

But honestly, what do you think are the Blue Eagles still competitive without Chris Tiu?

Featured Teen: Ryan Buenafe

December 12, 2008

Who said that our Featured Teens can only be the ones that I know? Let’s take Ryan Buenafe as our featured teen this moment.

AUL_2057e

To start the little Ryan Buenafe related article, here’s something that all of you need to know, Ryan Buenafe’s full name is Ryan Clarence Buenafe. Now, that’s something new, isn’t it? Buenafe plays as a Small Forward for the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles and he won the title as Rookie of the Year during the 71st UAAP Season that has passed just a couple of months ago wherein the Blues have succeeded and eventually won the season keeping a clean sheet of 4 meetings against arch nemesis De La Salle University Green Archers, 2 in the eliminations, and another 2 meetings during the Finals. Ateneo de Manila on Top of U.P

October 18, 2008

The Ateneo de Manila University tops the state university University of the Phililppines by a notch in the local rankings, and by 144 in the world wide category of a “problematic suvey” according to Hidalgo.

Joining Ateneo de Manila and University of the Philippines are the new entries De La Salle University who are also known as DLSU and the UST who ranked 415th and 470th, respectively.Ateneo de Manila University tops University of the Philippines in Global Survey

Hidalgo adds that the survey was problematic because they have not been informed about this, and have merely been informed that the rankings for University of the Philippines went up, which is actually a good thing. Whilst the sad fact is that it fell behind the Jesuits of Katipunan, Ateneo deĀ  Manila University.

Are UP’s doubts of fact? Or just mere expressions of their defeat to the Ateneans?

AdMU Bonfire, burning La Salle Player names

October 4, 2008

In disbelief I have to share these words of a member of the De La Salle University.. The Ateneo de Manila Community might have showed off their excellence in terms of basketball, but their aftermath behavior suggests otherwise. Before I involve too many personal lines, let’s proceed with a email sent to one of our forum members.

Ateneans, we understand that you need to have fun and to quell your pain to have another championship party Ateneo bonfire because your last championship was 6 years ago so we’re giving it to you. We’ve got no problem with that. Asides, there is always next year for all of the other teams to bounce back so go on, have your victory party. But please don’t take it too personal to a point that you will burn the names of our team’s players, management and staff. We don’t usually take it into offense that you refer to us in a playful way but if you are going to burn the names of the people who make up the De La Salle Green Archers, you might as well have the balls to burn our names.

Final Four Game 2: Blue Eagles vs Red Warriors

September 12, 2008

League Leaders Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles are up for a very though challenge, beating fourth placer UE Red Warriors who did quite a run by beating 2 big names in the UAAP. The UST Growling Tigers, and the FEU Tamaraws, back to back. Can the Warriors keep it up and strike Ateneo for a third win and the first win over Ateneo in this year’s season?

The Jesuits of Katipunan accomplished a perfect 2nd round of elimination without a single loss. Thus, making them league leaders at 13W and 1L, that against the FEU Tamaraws. After the tight match against the University of the East in the 2nd round, and some power triples from Buenafe and Tiu in the last couple of minutes; the Eagles were able to extend the game to overtime, thus bagging home the win. Will it be another game like that again? Or will King Eagle, Chris Tiu pull off from beyond the arc from the start?

Ateneo de Manila with the twice to beat advantage under their belt might play a little soft, but who knows? It’ll be a do-or-die match for the Warriors, and with no doubt, the Blues won’t hand it over that easy. Just like they denied Arch Rivals De La Salle in their final assignment for the 2nd round, with a impressive 8 point deficit.

It’s difficult to say who wins or looses. Anything can happen, and let’s see what will happen.

Watch out for our Final Four Guess Who wins Contest, soon!
