10 Reasons to Hate BlogSpot

A lot of people say that I’m too much into WordPress, and that I don’t want to understand the benefits that blogspot can bring. It’s true, that no matter what platform you use, it comes down to the user who decides which way to go and what suits him best (words by BatangYagit). But still, for me, there’s no reason to use Blogspot at all.why would I when I have my established WordPress Blog already? Else, if I would not have WordPress money for a domain name, or even no money to get myself some hosting under the ass, there’s still no way that I’d choose blogspot. Although, yes, I’ve been using blogspot for 2 days on a dummy blog of mine now.

  1. Themes – Every tenth blog that I see is using the same theme, if not, then they are using the same “imported themes” from WordPress which is not quite easy to do. Now, you don’t call that techy? When Blogspot is supposed not to be that techy?
  2. One Feed for All – It really sucks when you need to display your whole feed to your readers, when you don’t really want to. Let’s say for example, you’ve got a R-18 Category on your blog and don’t like it to be exposed to your email subscribers because there might be minors on it. In WordPress, excluding a certain category from the feed is easy.
  3. All In One SEO is out of sight – One of the most popular plugins of WordPress is of course not available for Blogspot, which renders blogspot absolutely unfriendly in terms of Search Engine Optimization compared to WordPressBlogs with AIOSEO active.
  4. The WYSIWYG sucks – I know, the WordPress’ initial WYSIWYG doesn’t do much better either, but at least there is a plugin at hand to extend the WYSIWYG editor that WordPress has originally.
  5. Commenting is like hell – I know, it’s a anti-spam measurement, but it’s really not handy. It totally sucks when you need to enter those words before you can  leave a comment. And not to forget the options given below if you’d like to leave a comment with Open ID, Name and URL and whatsoever.
  6. Commenting is like hell part II – I hate those crazy pop ups that slow down my computer when I comment on some blogs. Are these really needed?
  7. Limited Support – Compare the support they offer to the support that the ever so great WordPress Support Forums offer.
  8. Permalink Structure sucks – Now, do you really think that adding a .html at the end will make it more search engine friendly? I’d rather write better content than being concerned about that.
  9. My Post was gone – I wrote a long long post and it suddenly dissappeared, period.
  10. And last but not the least, I hate the reason why people use blogspot. I know, you can’t deny it. More than 20% of those who use Blogspot are using it only because they can add Javascript and add advertisements on it, which they can’tdo on WordPress. Poor people. Tsk, I don’t see the use why those started blogging, just to earn money? If those guys would only know that blogging is not about earning money, but about sharing your thoughts and ideas about whatever you have in mind, then you’d understand why even WordPress.Com is better than blogspot and how dominant WordPress.Org is in terms of online publishing. :)

So, there you have my reasons.

I agree! I never liked blogspot nor even used it for once! The site looks unprofessional when you use it! LOL. (no offense). People just sticked to it because it the first blog engine. But I suggest them to use wordpress…

I was touched by it, and I think you are referring me to those people who just used blogspot to earn money…lol… but im gonna agree with you dude. I have this wordpress blog (and you know that) and i like they’re features. For wise people… you should use this, I knew lots of known people use Wordpress, i think Brian Gorrell’s blog is hosted by Wordpress. But just leave me my own…. what I did with the blogspot was just Experimental…i mean..i never try Adsence before b’cos it wasnt even in Wordpress. So for curiosity…that’s it, I use Blogspot on my new blog. But dont cha worry I signed up again on Wordpress for a new blog…lol… Can I still handle it? maybe…just try lang.

  3. Brendel says:

I think it would be nice to be able to share information and your thoughts while earning a little on the side. Let’s face it, most people are going through financial setbacks. So remuneration out of blogging will always be welcome for me.

I find all you points valid. But for some of my blogs, I’ll continue to use Blogspot. Because I am comfortable with it and I like some things the way they are. But my personal blog, however, will be migrated to WordPress.

Anyway, your blog posts are becoming juicier. Keep it up!

  4. Gem says:

My, you are potentially opening a can of worms here! Especially the last point (#10).

I use blogspot on all domains. I have not figured out how to SEO it, but I’ve seen a few blogs that really made it good in Google search results (like bloggerbuster.com).

On SEO, Wordpress have all the advantage – if the blogger knows how to make use of the permalinks, all in one seo and all the other SEO optimizing stuff. Even better if the site is a self-hosted wordpress one.

In blogger, comments can be replaced with IntenseDebate. I did not also have problems with long posts. There are also a lot of bloggers who like to offer help in blogger blogs – so far the limited support is not a major issue to me.

On monetizing, isn’t it also done in self-hosted Wordpress platforms? I see a lot of Wordpress bloggers monetizing their blogs through adsense, text links and 125 banner ads too. A lot of blogger blogs have those loyal readers while doing paid posts.

  5. dChen says:

Ahahaha! I definitely agree with you. That’s why I chose to use Wordpress rather than Blogspot for blogging. Some say that Wordpress is complicated but I think they’re just too lazy to look much deeper into the windows that Wordpress has. Wordpress is customizable if you get to have the CSS working properly. :D More power to Wordpress!

  6. Kevin Paquet says:

@Jojo – then, go on and spread the word about WordPress :) :p

  7. Kevin Paquet says:

@patet – I have nothing against those who use blogspot for the “real essence” of blogging, a lot just use it because they want to earn money.

  8. Kevin Paquet says:

@Brendel – again like I said to patet, it’s okey to earn money from ur blog (use blogspot in other words) basta just don’t make money a habit out of it and use blogspot only to earn money, that’s what I dislike about those bloggers.

  9. Kevin Paquet says:

@Gem – I was referring to blogspot.com and wordpress.com in the last reason that I left. Since those are the *free blogging tools*

Automattic acquired IntenseDebate, so of course WordPress can also take all the advantages it brings ;)

  10. Kevin Paquet says:

@dChen – Amen to that. More power to WordPress Bloggers :)

  11. Babyjen says:

aww.. yeah.. i agree also that wordpress is much better than blogspot. but for some beginners out there… blogspot is more convenient for them. just depends on the person’s capabilities..;)

    take care!
    -xoxo-

  12. Jade says:

Kev, I am stlll in the process of moving my blog to wordpress .
And I do agree with Babyjen, blospot is just easier to start with if you don’t know anything about blogging.

Anyway, it’s still a great post….I could definitely use it since I am still very new to self hosting my blog.

  13. True, blogspot, may not be as powerful and complex as wordpress, but that’s exactly why some people still prefer blogspot.

Blogspot is simple and is easier to use which is a great help to those people who just want to write without worrying about stuff like plugins and themes. It is also a great testing ground for people who just want to try blogging out.

  14. pchi says:

    you’re entitled to your opinion

I am using blogspot. I am not saying that I like it or I don’t or that I like it better than wordpress.

All blogging platforms have a place in the cyber world.

If all there is to use is wordpress.. we wouldn’t be able to compare and that would be boring

As of monetizing from blogs… your points sounds like a personal attack on bloggers who make money with their blogs

I don’t take it personally but a blogging experience is different for each individual

we don’t have the same reasons for blogging ’cause we’re unique individuals

my reason is for self expression… if I can earn money along the way, why not?

  15. Jhen says:

hmm. maybe at some point you’re right but for me as a user of blogspot and a beginner in blogging maybe we have different reasons why we use blogspot or maybe wordpress. Babyjen is right definitely blogspot is a more convenient for beginners, like me. since wordpress is kinda hard for me to understand since i don’t know how it really works… and for the number 10th? hmm its up to the blogger how he/she will run his blog ayt? I don’t think putting advertisements in blog can affect the whole blog. c’mmon it is just for fun.

  17. Lainy says:

Thanks for the visit on my Blogger blog, LOL!

This post is subjective. It’s because you are a WOrdpress user and I am a blogger user.

First off, I won’t argue with all the things you’ve said but If I may suggest, can you do some tutorials for blogger users like us? I’m using blogger not because I’m in love with it. It’s the only option I can have for now because I don’t know how Wordpress works.

Your tutorial on how we could make use of WP and agree with all the 10 points you’ve listed above might just make us change our minds and switch to W P;-)

  18. mimi says:

I think Wordpress is for serious bloggers who know how to make a website. I agree that Wordpress has more features but I use Blogspot because I’m not as experienced and knowledgeable about FTP, PHP, blog hosting, etc etc. as you and most Wordpress users are.

With that, if you do hate Blogspot so much, I suggest you put tutorials for the blog hosting newbie. If there were such things, I think most people would move to Wordpress.

But anyway, nice post. God bless! :)

  22. wahahah!
I have free hosted blogspot and self-hosted wordpress.org blogs
pero to compare the two is really NOT relevant you know why?
its like comparing two different species kasi…

dapat compare mo nalang un wordpress.org sa ibang self-hosted na blog like drupal or joomla …( which I also have one drupal blog and in the making pa un joomla ko na blog)

blogspot can be compared to a non-hosted blog like wordpress.com ok…?
kung compare ko natin ang wordpress.com (which I also have one wordpress.com blog)
mas ayos ang blogspot kasi sa template palang and modifying the widgets and making it more personalize, much user friendly naman ang blogspot kaysa wordpress.com…

    What do you think guys?!

    agree!!!

    bow!

    (^_^)

  23. Kevin Paquet says:

@Aice Nice Concepts – In my last few sentences I said, that even WordPress.Com is much better than blogspot, how much more WordPress.Org.

In general, I’m comparing and contrasting WordPress and BlogSpot, WordPress.Com itself has got more to show.
Joomla at the other end is no blogging tool, it’s a CMS.

  24. @Kevin Paquet
nako ha joomla can be use as CMS and also blog… like the wordpress.org it can also be used as CMS

hmmm I beg to disagree mas maganda ang blogspot compare mo sa wordpress.com noh!

  25. Kevin Paquet says:

@Daizel – adik rin ako seo hahaha..

I know you don’t like blogspot, i really don’t know but from your entry I can tell that you really HATE it. But still, HATE is a strong word.

I am using blogspot, and im kind of proud of it since I am still new in the bloggin world. I think it is definitely OKAY to use blogspot if your new, and do not have that much knowledge about stuff. As they said from other commentors, blogspot is easier to use…

    as for you, expert na.

I’m planning on moving to wordpress soon… if i have my own domain.lol

@bientot – Somehow it does matter what you use, because your the most SEO friendly blogging tool will become visible in the search engine, of course you need content too. But let’s say two sites with same great content, on different blogging tools. That’s where the competition really starts

  37. nikky says:

well, i like blogspot a lot coz im not expert when it comes to PHP, FTP and more.

I just recently moved my some of my blogs to wordpress kasi of some matter. kaya ito ako ngaun, nangangapa, d lam kung saan mg sstart ng mga new codes.

I already install the wordpress but i still have to read some of the step by step how to figure things out.

Nakaka-drain ng utak kung d ka matalino like others. I’m not super smart to easily know things lalo na sa coding.

Nasanay kasi sa HTML. Super easy.

I admit wordpress is way more cooler when it comes to building a nice themes, super dami akong nakikitang WP themes not like blogspot na d masyado. Pero nakakapag customize ako ng template sa blogspot and I enjoy it.

Siguro kung marunong na ako in wordpress. Magugustuhan ko rin.

About monetiizing, d mo naman maiiwasan sa mga bloggers yun, why not making money while enjoying the essense of blogging at the same time. I find it fun, lalo na pag approved ang mga reviews ko. Kahit konti I can see that I can earn money in the web world. Nakakatuwa!!! Lalo na ngaun, halos lahat ng tao need ng extra income because of the crisis crunch. You need to think any way to earn money kahit sa blogging man lang kahit konti lng.

I ENJOY YOUR POST KEV, maraming ngresponse sa post, readable lahat ng post mo, galing mo tlga!

PS. As the previous address of an e-mail has been removed also all letters on it have been lost I is compelled to make this dispatch once again.
PS2. To send url your site on an e-mail stop.web.spam@gmail.com is a unique way to avoid a spam from me. To write abuses to the various “stop spam” sites – it is useless.
PS3. Your addresses of an e-mail are not necessary to me, you can create an e-mail through free service and send me yours url through this e-mail

  44. You really have good reasons to hate blogspot, but point number 10 seems to be self-contradicting. Who cares on what blogging platform you’re using if your main objective is just to share your thoughts and ideas???

  45. Bunsoi says:

Someone named unknown-nymous gave me this link because he/she wanted to read my opinion about this DAW. So, let’s see what I can come up with. Assuming its not from any of the administrators. :-)

I’ve used Blogspot for my first 8 months in blogging, and it has never failed me on what I visioned it to look like prior to its actual establishment. Thanks to its very easy user-interface that has a WYSIWYG concept.

Today on my own domain, I’m currently using Wordpress. Comment? so-so.

If I’m not mistaken, someone told me that Blogspot blogs are more Google search engine friendly because Blogspot afterall, is a subsidiary of Google, right?

For the number 9, are you pretty sure about that. I never lost a single draft from Blogspot. Kasi, they have this autosave feature which automatically saves your draft every minute.

As for the issue of earnings, Kev, don’t deny the fact that earning money thru blogging is ALSO a REASON why PinoyTeens has undergone several domain name changes. Just because PT was banned from Google allegedly caused by fraudulent clicks, you transferred from BuhayKabataan.Com to TeenPH.Com and now back to PinoyTeens. And if I’m not mistaken, you told me via YM that you are so happyyy that Adsense is finally back on PT.

In addition, you haven’t had any experience using Blogspot yet. Right? Oh well, you had one. But that wasn’t really used diba? I mean, INTESIVELY USED. Because if you do, you might have loved it as well. Remember what kuya Lyle told you during the MB Party.

Note: Dont take this comment of mine against me ha? Basig maninuod ka? *peace*

Another note: This is my response to someone who told me to comment on this post. Haba noh? Nadala ako eh. :-)
