The Information Technology Department of the Philippine Women’s College of Davao is set to host their first ever Software Freedom Day this coming September 20, 2014. Software Freedom Day 2014 is slated to be PWC I.T Department’s biggest event yet.
Software Freedom Day is a globally and simultaneously held event that aims to promote and encourage the use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Some of the common FOSS that will be discussed include Linux/Ubuntu, WordPress and OpenOffice/LibreOffice.
PWC IT, being a relatively new IT Community among all the other existing IT Departments of other Universities and Colleges in Davao, is planning to make their SFD2014@PWC a rather modest occasion.
“For a start, we decided to prioritize our fellow Philwomenians for the Software Freedom Day. Our target is around 80 to 100 participants for this. We’re hoping that next year, we can make it a big one.”, said Kevin Paquet, PWC IT Club’s Vice President. SFD will be held inside the campus, most likely at the TL Gym.
