The Philippine National Basketball Team, Smart Gilas-Pilipinas 2.0 is prepping up for the FIBA Asia Cup.
Expectations are kept modest, as head coach Chot Reyes says.
Automatic FIBA Asia Championship Berth at stake
The Smart Gilas-Pilipinas fans are hoping that the Philippines manages to end up with a better win-loss record than 2010’s 1-3 standing.
The teams that the Philippine National Basketball team will face include China, on their first outing this September 14, Lebanon, the team that eliminated the Philippines in the quarterfinals in 2010 on September 15 as well as Uzbekistan and Macau on the 16th and 17th respectively.
Winning the FIBA Asia Cup can give the winning team some breathing space, because the basketball team ending up on top at the FIBA Asia Cup will be automatically qualified to FIBA Asia, the Asian qualifying tournament for the FIBA World Championship.
