Miriam Defensor-Santiago passed away at the age of 71. The feisty ex-Senator was unable to overcome her battle with lung cancer and eventually succumbed to it this September 29, 2016.
Known as the Iron Lady of Asia, Miram was an icon of incorruptibility, honest government service, and constitutional law. She was given numerous awards and recognition for her fight against corruption in the country.
In a Twitter post, Santiago’s staff said the former senator died “peacefully” at 8:52 a.m. Thursday. The wake will reportedly be at the Cathedral Grottos of The Immaculate Conception Cathedral of Cubao.
