Gaming addiction is a core problem that many students are facing today in the Philippines. I can’t stress enough how important it is to curb addiction to gaming, for it brings a number of problems that affect not only the person who gets addicted, but the people around them.
Sure, eSports has become a thing now. Sure, there’s a lot of money poured into this particular industry. I feel though as if the Filipino gamer hasn’t matured yet to that standard. Or at the very least, not all of our gamers have the opportunity to get to that stage yet.
Only a handful truly make it in the competitive gaming industry. Especially from the Philippines, where only a select few eSports athletes are standing out.
I don’t want to take away from them the dream of being an eSports icon. Heck, I want to be one too, especially for my plays on Nature’s Prophet in DotA 2 and Cyclops in Mobile Legends. But here’s the thing…
To really contain addiction to video games, one has to go through a process. Not exactly the same routine that I went through, but at any rate, I believe that the general idea sticks:
- Find a balance between gaming and other things in life
- Limit yourself to a number of games per day and throttle down in the days ahead
- Find another leisure activity aside from gaming, like reading a book for example
- Have people to play with to make the experience more enjoyable but who also respect your need of throttling down the hours
- Believe in yourself that you can get over game addiction
Indeed, gaming is merely a lock screen away. You can game almost anywhere at anytime on your mobile phone and drown hours into Mobile Legends thanks to the broad coverage and superior internet speeds of service providers like Globe Telecom… But ask yourself… Do you really wanna game all night and all day long?
The biggest secret to reducing your addiction to games is not reading posts like these. It’s how you talk yourself into becoming a more productive and better person. Definitely don’t throw gaming out of the window – I didn’t. But realize for yourself that you’re better than that. That there’s more to life than the character on your screen.
