Here’s a quick update that was shared by a friend of mine on Facebook about the latest news on Bagyong Basyang.

Some areas here are without power due to a busted transformer of Veco. Unfortunately, this include portions of the City of Naga National High School where evacuees from coastal villages are taking shelter amid reports of possible occurrence of high tide and storm surge.

Power outage followed immediately after a loud explosion was heard around 10:30 p.m., forcing DSWD personnel, who took charge of the evacuees, to use emergency lamps and flashlights.

City officials chose City of Naga National High School as an evacuation center instead of the baywalk-based City gymnasium to ensure their safety should storm surge occur due to typhoon Basyang.

As of 11 p.m. some 81 families, including members of Ati tribe in Barangay South Poblacion, temporarily took shelter at the evac center. They were given food and some used clothing.
