The day of November 25 of 2009 is probably one of the most shocking days in the history of Philippine show business. Â This is for the reason that November 25 of 2009 is the day that long-considered Star Magic Queen Claudine Barretto signed a 2-year EXCLUSIVE contract with her 17-year home station’s rival network GMA 7.
As a certified Claudine Barretto fan, I would say that this network transfer used to be the last thing in my mind. Â I mean come on, she is not Angel Locsin who has just spent a few years in her home network and had an accidental fame when the first-ever fantasy series in Philippine TV in which she starred in got the support of Philippine TV. Â Claudine Barretto transferring is like Judy Ann Santos transferring to GMA 7 or Vic Sotto/Joey De Leon transferring to ABS-CBN all of a sudden. Â Aside from this, there have been already countless rumors over the years stating Barretto’s intent to transfer to GMA 7 but none of them proved truth so I kind of dismissed the idea that my favorite actress will be in my favorite network someday. Â Being a Claudine Barretto fan was not enough reason for me to watch and support the Kapamilya channel so I have always been a Kapuso patronizer. Â Hence, being able to watch my favorite actress of all time in the same Filipino channel that my household watches is such a joy for me.
Just like what happened to Angel Locsin who transferred to ABS-CBN from GMA 7 2 years ago, there are so many people who are frowning on this career move made by Miss Barretto.  This is primarily because for Filipinos, the concept of utang na loob is still preponderant.  A large fraction of Miss Barretto’s fame is because of ABS-CBN and transferring to its rival network after 17 years can be considered by many people as tantamount to spitting on that network’s investments that made Barretto.
It is said that Barretto’s link to GMA 7 first started when she signed a movie contract with Viva Films last October 8 of 2009. Â Barretto claimed that the failure of Star Cinema to give her a movie to work on made her miss being active in the movie industry. Â Hence, when Viva Films offered her a movie contract, she then grabbed the opportunity. Â It is noted that Barretto’s last movie appearance was in Sukob (2006) which was produced by Star Cinema.
Barretto has also been very idle in terms of TV participation. Â In fact, she can be seen more nowadays in TV advertisements only rather in soap operas which she used to be always in through the course of her career. Â The last time she had a soap opera of her own was in Iisa Pa Lamang which concluded in 2008. Â Albeit she had a guest appearance in ABS-CBN’s current Primetime bet May Bukas Pa. Her last stint for ABS-CBN was during the Star Magic Concert this year where she joined the finale performance of the said event with Piolo Pascual.
Barretto, who was accompanied by her parents and beau Raymart Santiago (who is a current talent of GMA 7) in her contract signing last Wednesday said that there are numerous projects that are already lined up for her in the Kapuso network. Â As a matter of fact, one of these is an upcoming movie with old flame Mark Anthony Fernandez which will be co-produced by GMA Films along with Viva Films. Â Barretto, who is very proud to be a new Kapuso is also very excited to have her first ever joint project with beau Raymart Santiago. Â She also noted that she has been a longtime fan of the GMA network prior to her transfer and has been watching shows of Marian Rivera, Mark Anthony Fernandez, Rhian Ramos and Dingdong Dantes.
Aside from being one of the best actresses nowadays, Claudine Barretto is also one of the top 15 most effective endorsers in the country. Â Currently, some of the products she endorses are Folded And Hung, Belo Medical Group, Belo Essentials, Secosana, Lactum, 555 Carne Norte, Pantene, Knorr Real Sarap All-Purpose Seasoning and Salon De Manila.
Barretto joins the roster of old ABS-CBN talents who decided to cross the bridge for a career move namely Paolo Contis, Marvin Agustin, Camille Pratts, Patrick Garcia, Heart Evangelista and Jolina Magdangal. Â While this decision is really surprising because everyone probably thought that Barretto is a talent ABS-CBN will always get a grip of, her decision to switch networks is perfectly understandable because it seems that she has been being neglected by her home network already. Â Objectively speaking, a network does not have the right to make one of their biggest stars wait for a project for too long–even though people will say that this star owes its current fame from the network. Â I believe that in show business, it is always a give-and-take kind of exchange. Â The network gives its actors and actresses the tool for fame while the actors and actresses give the networks fame and income through their prowess in acting and performing. Â Barretto uses her prowess in acting as her advantage for income so like anybody else who works to be able to sustain his/her needs, it is perfectly normal to find another venue where her best interest will be served. Â We have to admit that Barretto is one of the most exceptional actresses we have today and it is also such a waste if her talent won’t be put in use. Â But let me just say that I believe it is such a huge mistake by ABS-CBN to let go of Barretto just like that despite her “old” age and length in Philippine showbiz. Â She was like ABS-CBN’s most priced gems. Â Even though there is a flock of new faces and talents nowadays, a Claudine Barretto is very hard to replace! Â I mean hello, that is why we still have Miss Vilma Santos and Miss Sharon Cuneta being offered big movies! Â Well this might be already biased but I don’t think even Kim Chiu, Marian Rivera and Angel Locsin combined can outshine a Claudine Barretto in terms of audience rapport and talent!
However, I fear that because of this transfer, some budding stars in GMA 7 will somehow experience dryness when it comes to their careers. Â Like for instance, Marian Rivera who is the current Primetime Queen of GMA 7 can really be outshone by Barretto once she gets her own break in GMA 7’s Primetime. Â The same thing can happen for Rhian Ramos and even to Kris Bernal. Â But anyway, these stars still have many things to prove and I guess Barretto who has already been in the business for 17 years will really have a large fanbase anywhere she goes. Â I think the responsibility to distribute projects to their talents equally lies on GMA 7 so that Marian Rivera and Rhian Ramos and the like won’t think of transferring to ABS-CBN to serve their needs for projects. Â This might be a good career move also for Mark Anthony Fernandez because as far as I can think of it, he is the most plausible loveteam-mate for Claudine Barretto if ever they give her projects that have love story plots. Â I do not think it can be Richard Gutierrez or Marvin Agustin–most especially NOT Dingdong Dantes! Â Hello naman!

It's derived from the term "political prostitute" which is usually used for politicians who switch from party to party everytime. So for "network prostitute", that means an artist or a talent who switches networks from time to time. That does not mean prostitute as in a whore, dear. Never. And I didn't mean that to Claudine. I am a die hard kapamilya fan. But that doesnt make Kapuso fans any lesser to me. Just that, once a star moves from one network to another, it generally means that you felt bored na or you dislike being there na. But kahit ano pa bangayan nating mga fans, the fact remains that She has her own valid reasons. and she is entitled to it. But I will stick to the network not with the star. Honestly, I am not a fan of Claudine but I'd support talented actors any day. So if she's really as good as everyone claims her to be – then I would like to watch her. Plus, I think she'd be a breath of fresh air for GMA. I am hoping they give her a nice telenovela though; not like those crappy ones they give their amateur actors or as heavy drama as those in ABS… It would be great if kasama niya si Mark Anthony coz that will be really interesting and it will be something that many people will be curious to watch.

about angel locsins' "only you"-it was a hit here in mindanao..particularly Davao, and abs is number one sa visayas and mindanao.. kaya nagtataka lang talaga kami kung bakit parang ang dating kulelat ang abs sa buong Pilipinas…
at yung pambatang soap na sabe mo yung may bukas pa is also doing well here…i dont know. iba-iba lang talaga ang taste ng tao…

halos lahat ngayon ng soap sa gma di original..puro lahat remakes.. i was sad when they again made a remake on darna(for the second time).. i thought… my GOD wala na talaga silang maisip .although nag click naman sa metro manila….but i think abs lang so far sa ngayon ang gumagawa ng may pambatong soap at halos lahat oroginal: may bukas pa…dahil may isang ikaw… tayong dalawa…etoy mga dikalibreng obra at lahat pinag-iisipan.. from cast to story line.. though not perfect,may mga flauses i admit… but you really feel the passion behind..nagkakaroon ng mark sa tao ang mga characters to a point na nakakalimutan na ang identity ng mga artista..like lola gets!(gina pareno)santino…before it was amor powers(eula valdes) mara(juday)
in other words they are not afraid to take risks.. to a point of giving up claudine.. and pave way to a younger and potential stars…life is all about taking risks..pero kung sharon vilma maricel lorna ka… kahit 10 yrs kang mag rest.. pagbalik mo pipilahan ka pa rin

I am not a fan of Angel Locsin, in fact I hated ABS-CBN then because of their decision to accept Angel who doesn't have any talent at all except to shout "Drana" which was being dubbed pa ni Regine.
But when I wacthed her MMK episode, nakita ko na malaki ang inimprove niya. Dahil positive yung reviews ng MMK espidoe nya, ayun ginwaan sya ng LOBO, at dahil maganda and feedback ng tao sa LOBO, ayun gumawa ng film with Piolo. Pero I did not watch the film. Kung sinasabi nyo eh consistency, okay yun para sa artista alone and not for everyones benefit.
again, entertainment is all about entertaining your audience.
Before you face your audience you have to make sure that what you give them are the best, looking from a "Kapamilya's Perspective" , ayaw namen ng mediocre na istorya or proyekto.
Kung sa pag-aalaga ng artista, I would like to gibd Star Magic a standing ovation.
Sige, sabihin mo man na walang consistency ang pagbibigay ng project for now. Pero pag binigyan mo na ng project ang isang talent ng star magic, makikita mo na credible at de kalidad ang produkto. At dahil jan, may "sabik" factor ang audience.
ABS-CBN is a home for creative minds with credibility and fairness. They have a heart for their people and audience.

But i don't think that her switch to GMA is a big deal to ABS-CBN.i mean look it's been days since her crossover and yet they haven't covered it yet.her switch is not a big deal to abs-cbn and to me anyways.so yeah.but i predict that she will come back after her 2 year contract is expired.anyways we'll just have to see.BON VOYAGE Claudine Goodluck.
I think it is not much talked about in showbiz talk shows because she did not make a fuss out of it anyway. And I do not think that Claudine made actions that would make her transfer garner violent reactions. Usually naman, things that are sensationalized in showbizness are the things that are considered anomalous by many people e.g. Angel Locsin's transfer years ago. This was talked about because number one, Angel denied that she has plans or negotiations with ABS-CBN despite many questions by her management and by the press. Number two, Angel and Becky Aguila incorporated too much drama in their justifications for her transfer. Kesyo overburn na raw ang ginagawa ng GMA to Angel with less compensation and they even compared Angel to Richard who is getting more pay because of his more work load in GMA 7. Mga ganun. Claudine has a very positive aura with regards to her transfer so there is no reason to rant or harp about it! 🙂 That is just my opinion. 😛 If GMA 7 treats her very well–or even BETTER than how ABS treated her, for sure she will STAY IN GMA. But of course, it's also dependent on the support she will get from GMA 7 patronizers which is not really questionable. 😛

Okay, so Mulawin aired on August 2004 and Marina aired on February 2004. Marina is the first one. However, Mulawin is the first fantasy series which garnered such high ratings and made GMA 7 the most-viewed TV station during those times after so many years of ABS-CBN rocking it all out. I agree. ABS seems more of a desperate station to me than GMA. GMA, they have long running shows like Eat Bulaga, Bubble Gang, SIS and what's the name of their morning show? Anyways, it just shows that they have a stable audience reception. But I noticed sa ABS, marami silang shows na parang pang experiement lang kaya they don't last very long. Hindi ba nakailang palit na sila ng morning shows and noontime shows. And those na medyo nagrarating sobrang trying hard naman ang dating gaya ng Wowowee.

After reading all the comments, I became a fan of Ms. Clarissa Reyes. Haha, so obvious na yung iba di nya kalevel, tsk tsk, bat pa kze nagcomment, tuloy I had the impression na medyo may kakulangan ang mga followers ni Claudine.
In fairness to Claudine, whatever reason she has for switching she is entitled to it. Looking back sa mga interviews nya, it was so obvious that she was really planning on switching way back na. I think it's a case of deal gone bad. Probably ABS didn't give in to her demands of a higher rate or whatever demands she may have. They were supposed to be having a serye ng sister nya na si Gretchen and when asked about it she would just say "tingnan natin kung mapaguusapan ng maayos". Gretchen had been bragging about it for a long time, di pala matutuloy, does not even mind the billing, kulang nalang gawin na for free especially kze sister nya ang kasama nya. Maybe the issue on billing really was true???.. whatever, i'm not really interested. I just wanted to say that maybe Claudine had finally accepted the fact na di na sya ganun ka bankable sa ABS and since sabi ng followers nya she is a sensible businesswoman, perhaps she thought it wise to switch, she needs to earn kaya sa sobrang taas ng cost of living nila 😀
Reality check lang po, IMHO Claudine really isn't as good an actress as few people are saying that she is. Nagkapangalan lng when she got really good stories for her seryes. But if you take a look at her acting, nakupo! I see the same facial expressions everytime, it's painful to hear people say she is such a good actress. I honestly think she is not. Well, that is just my opinion anyway and who am I but no one 😀
Ang ending, I think she will not really have the success that she is expecting from her decision to move, baka lalo pa syang lumaos. But it is her decision and it's her life. Good luck nalang!

Hello..I am shocked about this sudden move made by Claudine. I remember in one interview she said that she has no written contract with ABS CBN ever since. She is just there because she chose to stay with the network under the care of Mr.M and she even said that she will probably grow old with ABS. I do not think that she has been neglected by ABS because she has a soap with her sister as well as a movie next yr. I think she just can't wait and maybe GMA gave her some sweet promises which makes it more tempting for her to take the offer. Wala namang lilipat kung walang magagandang promises di ba? So we will see what's gonna happen next. I hope she succeeds. Pero let's not blame the station sabi nga ni Roxanne Guinoo taking turns naman dw ng project yan kahi nga si Juday nag lie low din muna. The thing with Claudine din kasi is me anak na and she prefers to have time with the family therefore limiting her career opportunities kasi sinabi pa niya one time hindi cla pwede magtaping ni Raymart on the same day kailangan isa sa kanila maiwan sa bahay with the kids. So kapag marami kang restrictions, naturally limited na ang offers for you whereas if medyo flexible ka mas marami kang offers. Wag nyo naman laitin ABS kasi marami rin silang napasikat kahit yung galing GMA like Valerie, Toni, Mariel, Angel etc…GMA also is trying to rebuild talents of ABS na medyo humina ang career like sina Patrick, Paolo and now Claudine. Pero parang cycle din yan, me babalik sa pinanggalingan, meron ding hindi. It's not the network, it's the star that matters. (sorry mahaba).
Pahabol pala, cguro kaya tahimik ang ABS and kahit si Claudine has nothing bad to say against ABS maybe because maayos ang usapan nila. We'll never know baka open pa rin cya to go back sa ABS if she desires to do that after 2 yrs. Like ke Carmina, kahit lumipat cya to GMA, open pa rin cya anytime sa ABS kaya nga nakakaguesting pa rin cya dun like sa The Buzz and MMK. Basta maayos ang pag alis mo wala talagang negative feedback from both parties. Baka gusto lang muna ni Claudine magtry ng ibang options. I am sure she has nothing bad to say against ABS kasi inalagaan din naman cya in fairness dun. I am saying this coz I once worked with ABS bfore my family migrated to the states. So, wag na kau mag away GMA vs ABS. After all, they have one common goal naman eh..and that is to serve the people through fun entertainment and deliver fair news as well.
Yung desisyon ni Angel na lumipat sa abs ay naging Tama, What I like about ABS eh yung hindi ka lang pasisikatin para gawing normal na artista, Hinuhubog ng ABS ang bawat talents nila para maging magaling na artista… Examples are: Judy Ann, Claudine, Piolo, Jericho, Bea, John Loyd, Gerald and Kim (dati super bano silang umarte pero ngayon laking improvement, kung sa abs yan wala silang mapapala katulad nila !.. kalimutan ko yung name basta yung sa starstruck.and a lot more. Angel won an acting award and was recognized by no less than the international Emmys… Christine Reyes' acting was also commended here and in abroad (korea)countless times. Karylle for the first time in her career was able to achieve a gold status for her latest album, Jake Cuenca from being a mere supporting actor became one of the sought after leading man today, Sarah Geronimo from being a small talent @ GMA became the top POP singer in the philippines.
And what I love about ABS is that their talents are known world wide…
Now about Claudine Barreto, IMO, her Decision to transfer to GMA is not that much of a big deal since after all, ABS has a lot of talents that are equally or even better talents than her. Hindi na sya nag rarate at natatabunan na sya ng ibang mga young stars. Mas maayos na rin na nasa GMA sya para maging low class actress na din sya… Mapapasama na sya sa mga artistang parang robot kung umarte, sa mga singers nila na hindi bumebenta ang album(si regine at ogie lang tlga), mga shows nila na walang quality (bihira manalo/mapansin ng mga international/local award giving bodies). Papupunta na sya sa station na locally lang kilala ang mga artista(napapanuod ko mga shows nila sa ibang bansa parang bored na bored mga audience at parang hindi kilala yung mga artista) at syempre sa Station na No.2 lang ang ratings sa buong Pilipinas…

Kaya mas madali sa GMA kumuha ng artista from ABS kasi magaling na…parang package na andun na lahat. Whereas if galing sa kanila, lesser experience and lesser training so paglipat sa ABS…kailangan pa nilang i workshop pra maging magaling na artista/performer. She is either narrow minded or sour graping dahil ABS is the best station for Claudine kaso she made some decisions she didn't even thought about well. I agree with her na Claudine has contributed much to the network (ABS) but that goes both ways. ABS made her a star that she has become. ABS molded her and trained her. Di lang cya ang shining star ng ABS andyan pa marami…to name SOME of them are Judy Ann, Piolo, Echo and of course si MEGA. Claudine is a good star but she is not just the reason why ABS became successful. I hope she will do well in GMA and at the same time I hope she will regret making the sudden move. She is no longer the Optimum Teleserye queen dahil ABS and nagbansag nyan pero magaling pa rin cya don't take me wrong.

Kung wala man mabigay ang Star Cinema na pelikula sa kanya ngayon eh siguro dahil wala pang magandang istorya or project na pwede or sakto sa image ni Claudine ngayon. Para sa akin, dapat hindi siya sa GMA lumipat dapat sa TV 5!!! Bigyang pansin naman ang TV5, may Kim Chiu na ang ABS-CBN, may Marian na ang GMA 7, ang TV5 nagsisimula pa lang. Dapat doon s'ya lumipat kasi pantay lang ang kasikatan sa TV5, unlike sa ABS-CBN at GMA 7 na etong si Kim Chiu at si Marian ang center of attraction eh kung sisingit pa si Claudine eh di deadma na si Claudine, parang ganito "aanhin pa ang 'Claudine' kung may Kim Chiu" at "aanhin pa ang 'Claudine' kung may Marian". Nagdesisyon agad sya, lipat agad. Kung lalong mamamayagpag man ang karera niya doon, its Claudine's fate. And regardless of its aftermath, Claudine Barretto, is without a doubt one of the most celebrated stars in showbiz.

Claudine may have less number of movies and teleseryes. But lets be realistic, mas nagmamarka ang mga role at palabas niya sa tv, ginagaya ang mga linya. Hindi lang siya gumgawa ng pelikulafor the sake of earning money, but for the film industry as well. Quality over Quantity, most of her movies naghit at sa mga teleseryes hindisiya bumababa ng single digit ratings if not sobrang taas katamtaman lang.

Happy ako for Claudine because Kapuso na siya. At agree din ako na mas mgaling si Kris Bernal kay Kim Chiu. Mas magaling nga rin palang umarte si Aljur kay Gerald. Sana rin lumipat si Nico Ibaviosa sa GMA para may pantapat sila kay Enchong Dee ng ABS. Both Enchong and Nico are good swimmers. But I think mas matalino si Nico than Enchong kasi si Nico ay UP student at si Enchong at La Salle graduate. Di ba sabi nila ang ibig daw sabihin ng DLSU ay Di Lumusot sa UPCAT. Nico is lucky because he passed UPCAT. But if naging Kapuso si Nico ay tiyak ipantatapat nila iyan kay Enchong Dee. Juday VS Claudine its okey because nasa magkalabang network na sila. The Last Prince is winning against Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo. I think kung itinapat ang programa ni Juday sa ABS at ang programa ni Claudine sa GMA ay mas mataas yung kay Claudine.

it saddened me when i first heard about this, claudine barreto is one of my favorite local actresses, shes just a brilliant and effective actress for me. i just hope that shell come back someday to her home network, that is if shes still popular by that time, as most of stars who transferred to kapuso network seems to have lost all of their brilliance and shine in the industry…

ABS-CBN doesn't make this transfer a big deal on-air for they value and RESPECT their big TALENT's decision and PRIVACY. Everything has a reason. It could be Reymart, her husband, who's there in 7, for them to be together in one station, or whatever that be, noone knew.
Everything around were just hearsays that a-person-with-a-good-mind-condition must not easily entertain. Just take a look at it – she's definitely that important to ABS, for they say nothing, to immediately cut the issue.

I'm an avid Fan of Claudine Barretto and I do not like making it exaggerating but I always think of her everyday (literally EVERY DAY!). I love filipino movies because of her. I just have a little frustration about the network transfer but I am very disappointed to what ABS CBN did to her. I missed her much in primetime and movies. I'm wodering why ABS was not able to give her a soap or movie for the long period. Remember Sukob is a high grossing movie but why ABS inspite of the success of the last movie was not able to give Claudine another movie? This is stupid!. I'm not network fanatic so it's okay for me that Claudine has transferred to GMA. Claudine has proved her worth as an actress but she can prove more. She is lined up together with the Big star that Philippine Movie has- Nora, Vilma, Sharon and Maricel. Claudine is The OPTIMUM STAR as we have STAR FOR ALL SEASON, MEGA STAR and DIAMOND STAR. Hope I can see more movies from Claudine. Let us support her what ever station she might be and let us ABS CBN know that they've made the wrong decision for leaving Claudine. CLAUDINE BARRETTO IS THE FINEST ACTRESS OF THE PHILIPPINES MOVIE and TRULY she is the " OPTIMUM STAR" .
