Bayern Munich beat Manchester City in Champions League

Manchester City lost 1-3 at home against the UEFA Champions League Titleholders Bayern Munich in their Group Stage Match Day 2.

Bayern Munich looked to ease through Manchester City with an early goal courtesy of Frank Ribery. Bayern supporters from all around the world (including me) had even more reason to celebrate midway the second half as Bayern Munich were cruising on what looked to be an unassailable 0-3 lead. It wasn’t THAT easy and stress-free though as the Premier League side fought back with heart in the latter stages of the game.

The moment Bastian Schweinsteiger was substituted, Bayern didn’t look the same, didn’t seemed to play as assured and genuine than with him on the pitch. Jan Kirchhoff, the one Schweinsteiger was substituted for didn’t seem to make a huge impact on the game either.

Manchester City were eventually able to get one back via Alvaro Negredo, and looked like the more likely side to score and eventually upset the defending Champions League champions. They’ve come far enough the moment Jerome Boateng was sent off for an emergency tackle on Yaya Toure to prevent him from scoring. The free kick that followed was smashed unto the bar by Spanish International David Silva.

The last ten minutes seemed much longer and unpleasant than first expected specially with key players being substituted, with the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Mario Götze coming on for the wingers Frank Ribery and Arjen Robben who both have been goal scorers this evening.

Manchester City was unable to really push through though to harm Bayern from claiming 3 points away in England. It was Bayern’s second win in England in the 7 most recent attempts that they’ve had. It also concludes an unbeatable record for Manchester City in the Champions League at home.

The Bavarians will conclude the first round of Champions League group stage match with a home game against Viktoria Pilsen on October 23 at the Allianz Arena, while Manchester City will end the first round against ZSKA Moscow.
