WordPress 2.6 Beta 1

June 25, 2008 · Kevin Paquet ·

Pinoy Teens Online & WordPress PhilippinesWordPress 2.6’s Beta has been released and is available for public usage already. Although not recommended, I’ve been up all night (it’s 1:40AM right now as I am posting this) to upgrade all of my blogs to this beta version, so is Pinoy Teens Online running on WP 2.6.1 Beta right now, and my other websites as well.

So far so good, I haven’t noticed yet any new changes, may they be of the better or the worse, everything is almost the same just for a few things, including a Word Count which is now a core funcionality of WordPress 2.6. So you can get track of how many words you’ve typed already and how many words your article/post will contain. It’s quite tricky though, because the little WordCount appears very tiny for me; it can be seen below the Save / Publish / Delete Button.

Ryan Boren and a lot of other people have posted about updates on WordPress 2.6, which appear all to be promising. Though, I do not have time to check everything out this morning as I still need to rest and attend classes later. Just to emphasize again, it’s very much not recommended to install WordPress 2.6 beta1 on your active website but test it on a sub domain or so.

    The word count is also available as a plugin, so had you simply installed that you’d have been able to enjoy it without the riskiness of using a buggy beta.

    @Josh
    I haven’t heard about a plugin for that yet XD, I was surprised of this feature, I over read it and just noticed some numbers moving in my write panel

  3. Interesting, let me download it. hehehe
